Box Score The Sacred Heart University field hockey team improved to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in the MAAC, with a 3-1 win over visiting Siena College on Friday evening in New Haven, Conn. The Pioneers received goals from Makenna Crawford, Nichole Tolli and Marlena Koellner in the win.
The Pioneers took the lead at 29:18 when Crawford knocked home the games first goal. That was the score early in the second-half when SHU was awarded a penalty stroke that Tolli netted. Siena scored 32 seconds later to get within one, 2-1, before Koellner scored a corner for the final tally.
SHU returns to action on Sunday at 1pm when it travels to UMass-Lowell.
The Scoring
- Kelsy Hopkins shot from the top of the circle was knocked down by the Siena goalkeeper and Crawford collected the rebound on the backside and put the ball away for 1-0 advantage
- Tolli made it 2-0 SHU at 39:31 going to the right post on a penalty stroke
- Siena answered 32 seconds later as Molly Hagen put home a ball after a flurry in front of the Pioneer cage
- Allie Brouhard inserted a penalty corner to Colleen McAninley who put the ball to the stick of Koellner for the final tally
