Box Score

SHELTON, Conn.—  The Sacred Heart women's hockey team fell 3-1 to Brown on Friday night at the Sports Center of Connecticut. Senior forward Taylor Moreland scored SHU's only goal of the game in the third period after three goals from Brown.

Sophomore, Sena Hanson opened the scoring for Brown, in the only goal of the first period from a rebounded shot by Samantha Swanstrom at the 13:32 mark after a great save from Sarah Erban. The Bears outshot SHU 16-6 in the first

Hanson tacked on her second of the night, her team leading seventh of the season, 4:16 into the second. Senior Sam Donovan then gave the Bears a 3-0 advantage with a score at 7:47. Junior Cara Najjar notched the helper on Donovan's goal, her team-best eighth of the year.

Sacred Heart got one back just before the end of the second with a shorthanded tally from Taylor Moreland at 18:56. Moreland stole the puck and finished nicely after a breakaway with Bears goalie, Lauren Rippy. Shots were closer in the second period with the Bears holding a 10-9 edge.

Both teams skated through a scoreless third, with the Pioneers claiming the shot lead in the final frame, 14-5.

Erban and Rippyeach made 28 saves in goal for their respective teams.

The Pioneers close out the series against Brown tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 30) with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Sports Center of Connecticut.
