
Pioneers Take Lincoln Memorial 3-1

Fairfield, CT.- The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team continues to roll as they took out Lincoln Memorial 3-1. The Pioneers were lead by Bobby Costigan who tallied nine kills on the day. Doug Dzema continues to show his dominance, and precision as he registered seven kills, and ended with a hitting percentage of .778%. The Pioneers start conference play as they take on Charleston (W.V.) Friday the 10th at 7:00pm.
SET 1- The Pioneers jumped to an early start as Taylor Bloomquist added an ace to move the score 6-3. From there the Pioneers would rattle off multiple a number of points as Lincoln Memorial would take a timeout to attempt to stop the SHU moment. Following the timeout, The Pioneers rattled off a kill, and an ace from Tyler Lee. To close out the game, Bloomsquist managed to add a solo block and take the 25-14 win.
SET 2- The Pioneers brought in some fresh faces for the second set as Connor Mahony started the set with a solo block. The Rail Splitters would go on a five-point run to take a 17-11 lead. The Pioneers would get a big solo block from Michael McLaughlin to spark a five point run for the Pioneers. SHU would eventually take the lead at 19-18 and not give it up taking the second set 25-21.
SET 3- The third set was the lone set the Rail Splitters would take from SHU as they jumped to an early 6-1 lead. The Pioneers would battle back getting the score within one at 11-10. Late Lincoln Memorial success would end the set, 25-20.
SET 4- Head Coach Greg Walker was taking no chances in the final set as he brought back in his starters to take the match. Emerson Waumans would snag an ace to make the score 15-11 in favor of SHU. Dzema would get a pair of kills to close out the final set, as SHU would take a 25-19 win.
