Pioneers Finish Fifth At USBC Dallas Regional

The Sacred Heart University bowling team missed qualifying for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship by 24 pins in the Dallas, Texas Regional. The Pioneers placed fifth, by 24 pins, with the top four teams advancing to the national championship.

The event is comprised of four rounds totaling 64 baker matches. SHU bowled 20 games of 200 or more during the event and held the fourth position entering the final two baker games.

SHU started well, with five 200+ games in the first 16 games and led after the irst block, with 2,976 pins. The Pioneers posted 3,022 pins in the second round, with six 200+ games, but fell into fifth place overall.  The third round saw SHU with the seventh-highest round total, 2,855 pins and remain in fifth place. The team posted the third-best score in the fourth round, 3,011 pins and seven games over 200.The Pioneers led after the first round, with 2,976 pins on the strength of five games in which they surpassed 200.

In the individual competition, Lauren Hoffman and Amanda Nardiello tied for sixth place. The top four individual finishers advance to the Intercollegiate Singles Championships. The duo both totaled 1,178 pins over six games. Senior Sarah Rhodes finished 11th with 1,168 pins.
