ORLANDO, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Sacred Heart University women's bowling team finished the Destination Florida tournament in sixth place on Sunday after hosting the event at the AMF Sky Lanes in Orlando, Fla. 

The Pioneers qualified seventh heading into Sunday's Championship matches, falling in an incredible battle to second-ranked Nebraska, 4-3, in the fifth-place bout. No. 1-ranked Jacksonville State claimed the win at the event, while No. 5 Wichita State took second and No. 3 Vanderbilt finished third. 

SHU finished the tournament with a 6-6 record, claiming wins over three nationally-ranked programs. The Pioneers defeated No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore (945-850, baker), No. 18 UAB (1,026-812, traditional) and No. 19 Tulane (4-2). 

The Pioneers other victories came against Saint Anselm (923-802, baker), Alabama State (909-827, traditional) and Alabama A&M (913-903, traditional). 

After a 2-3 record in baker matches on Friday, SHU bounced back Saturday with a 3-2 mark in traditional matches. This momentum rolled into Sunday's contests, as the Pios bested No. 19 Tulane before its instant classic against the Cornhuskers. After dropping the first two rounds, the Pios won three straight to put Nebraska on the ropes. Unfortunately for SHU, a two-pin win in the sixth round and a seven-pin victory in the seventh iced the victory for one of the final four teams in last year's NCAA Tournament.

Karleigh LeMond led the way for the Pioneers with a 204.60 average over five traditional games, which ranked 12th in the tournament. Madilyn Yockel was not far behind in 16th with an average of 199.20. 

The Pios will have a week off before heading to Fort Worth, Texas, to take part in the Bulldog Classic, hosted by No. 9 Louisiana Tech.
