The Pioneers suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to LA Tech
HARAHAN, La. – The ninth-seeded Sacred Heart University bowling team saw its first Conference USA Bowling Championship come to a close on Friday morning, as the Pioneers suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to No. 5 Louisiana Tech in Harahan, La.
The Bulldogs opened the day with a tightly-contested 1,054-1,037 victory in the traditional match. Megan Prettyman led the way with an outstanding 278, which paced both teams. Hope Tafolla continued her strong tournament with a 212, while Morgan Licausi was third on the team with a 203.
SHU was ready with a bounce back in the Baker match, earning a 1,081-1,035 triumph. The two teams traded wins in the first two games until the Pios built a dominant 67-pin advantage by the third game. Close games in the fourth and fifth proved to be enough for the Pios to take the win.
With the score tied at 1-1, the match went to a best-of-seven Baker game. SHU and LA Tech split the first two games, with the Pios taking the second 206-183. Unfortunately for Sacred Heart, the Bulldogs went on to win the next three games to seal a 4-1 victory and clinch the mega match, 2-1.
The Pioneers will have to wait until Wednesday, March 25, at 4 p.m. for the selection show of the 2026 NC bowling championship to see if they can get an at-large bid. The NCAA regionals are slated to start on Friday, April 3. If SHU does not get an at-large spot, they will next compete at the ISC and ITC on Tuesday, April 14, in Green Bay, Wis.
