Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team made the short trip to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium Wednesday, falling to the Fairfield Stags 13-4.
Fairfield (3-4) dominated the opening half, taking a 9-0 lead. Riley Hellstein had three goals and four assists in the first half, while Sacred Heart (2-5) had all six of its shots on goal stopped by Fairfield goalie Caleigh O'Connor. Caitlin Delaney put the Pioneers on the board with 17:44 to play in the second half, scoring on a free position shot. She added her second goal with 10:03 to play. Freshman Kerri Metzler scored her first two career goals in the final six minutes.
SHU was outshot 27-19 as the Stags also held a 19-18 advantage in groundballs. Sacred Heart committed 19 turnovers and forced 18 Fairfield turnovers. Cassie Cesario had a team-high three caused turnovers for the Pioneers with three groundballs. Dominique Anselmin had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
The Pioneers return to action at Campus Field on Wednesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. against Manhattan.
