FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team fell 10-5 to the Manhattan Jaspers Wednesday afternoon at Campus Field.

Alyssa Pearce and Averi Farhat both had two goals for the Pioneers. Caitlin Delaney had three caused turnovers, three groundballs, and a goal. Nicole Holder also had three caused turnovers and added a team-high four groundballs and four draw controls. Paige Hammick had seven saves in goal, five in the second half. 

Manhattan (3-6) scored the first five goals in the game. Emily Sanford opened the scoring at the 21:35 mark, followed by a pair of goals by Molly Fitzpatrick 1:05 apart that made the score 3-0 with 18:08 to play in the half. Caitlin Murphy and Darby Nolan then scored 2:01 apart to give the Jaspers a 5-0 lead at the 6:24 mark. Farhat scored the Pioneers' lone goal of the first with 5:08 to go in the first. Manhattan took a 6-1 halftime lead on Talia Price's free position goal with 4:35 remaining.

The Jaspers scored twice in the first 3:31 to start the second half, going up 8-1. Sacred Heart (2-6) then scored three straight goals to cut the deficit to four. Pearce started the run with a goal at the 24:48 mark. Cassie Cesario then assisted on Farhat's second goal with 19:10 to play, which made the score 8-3. Pearce would score again 0:28 later off the draw to put the score at 8-4. Manhattan tacked on two more goals to go up 10-4 with 13:45 remaining. Delaney scored with 3:46 left to make the score 10-5. 

Manhattan outshot Sacred Heart 24-22 and held a 9-8 edge in draw controls. The Pioneers had the advantage in groundballs 19-16. Fitzpatrick led the Jaspers with three goals and had four points. Sarah Lang also had four points on a goal and three assists. Nikki Prestiano had 10 saves in goal.

The Pioneers are next in action at Yale on Saturday, April 1 at 12 p.m.
