Box Score AMHERST, Mass.— The Sacred Heart men's soccer team suffered its first road loss of the season, falling 3-0 against UMass at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Minutemen (2-0) picked up the opening tally just 2:41 into the game on a header by Konrad Gorich to the near post off the corner kick from Alex Desantis. SHU (0-2) outshot UMass in the first half 8-6, but was unable to get two shots on goal by junior Renan Raposo and senior Ezra Siyadhuba past goalkeeper Bardia Asefnia. Both Raposo and Siyadhuba accounted for three shots on the day.
Desantis brought the fire in the second half adding a pair of goals to give UMass the 3-0 win. His first came off a header in the 48th minute and the second in the 74th minute from six yards out past sophomore Robert Strain.
Sacred Heart was held to just one shot in the second half by the UMass defense and was outshot 16-9 in the game. Strain made six stops in goal for SHU.
The Pioneers are back on the road Thursday, August 31 as they take on Manhattan for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
