FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team snapped its two-game losing streak, as the Pioneers defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in straight sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-21) at home Friday evening.

Liisel Nelis and Julia Murawinski led Sacred Heart (13-8, 6-4 NEC) with a nine kills apiece, while Sarah Ciszek added 26 assists, eight kills and five digs in the win.

First Set: SHU 25-23

- With the set tied at  4-4, SHU went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead, capped by kill from Gianna Scioletti

- SHU was able to jump ahead 14-8 after a Ciszek kill to force an FDU timeout

- SHU built a 24-17 lead, but the Knights scored on six straight points to cut SHU's lead to 24-23

- A Fairleigh Dickinson attack error secured the SHU set win

Second Set: SHU 25-16

- SHU jumped out to a 10-5 lead, capped by a Ciszek kill to force an FDU timeout

- FDU cut the SHU lead to 11-8 before Rianna McNamee sparked a 6-0 run, capped by a Nelis kill to push the Pioneer lead to 17-8

- After FDU cut SHU's lead to 23-16, the Pioneers closed the set with a Nelis kill, followed by an FDU attack error to clinch the second set

Third Set: SHU 25-21

- SHU opened the set with back-to-back-to-back kills from Alix Polk, Nelis and Murawinski to take a 3-0 lead

- After FDU cut the SHU lead to 12-10, the Pioneers went on a 4-0 run to hold a 16-10 lead

- SHU matched its largest lead of the set when Nelis recorded a kill to give the Pioneers a 22-16 lead

- With the Pioneers up 23-21, Murawinski recorded a kill to give SHU match point, followed by a McNamee service ace to secure the match win

SHU hit .158 for the match, while Fairleigh Dickinson (2-23, 0-10 NEC) had a hit percentage of .000. The Knights registered 45 digs in the match, while SHU recorded 49.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 2, when SHU plays host to Bryant at 6:00 p.m.
