
Swimming and Diving Opens ECAC Winter Championship

The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team completed the first night at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Winter Championship in East Meadow, N.Y. The Pioneers accumulated 235 points on the first night and are in fourth place.
SHU divers all placed in the top-15 on the one-meter board, scoring 56 points, in the opening event of the competition.
The three-day championship continues at 10 am on Saturday at Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Diving
- Molly Martin started the night with a bronze medal in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 194.50
- Alexandra Bonanno accumulated 148.10 points, good for 10thplace, and Jessica Pianese placed 15thwith 123.50 points
Relays
- The Pioneers finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.48
- The team of first-year Taylor Eck, junior Julia Pusateri, sophomore Emily Peter, and junior Lauren Somers swam a time of 1:47.58
- The 800-yard freestyle relay of Kimberly Hylan, Somers, Nikole Rudis and Grace Bergstrom placed eight in a time of 7:53.33
1,650 Freestyle
- The Pioneer milers accumulated 25 points, paced by the 13thplace finish of Nicole Sauve at 18:11.32
- Margaret Flaherty placed 16thin a time of 18:20.68, with Shanna Haddow touching 20th(18:49.54)
