Pioneers Fall To Quinnipiac On Tuesday

HAMDEN, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University softball team dropped a non-conference matchup at Quinnipiac, 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bobcats (20-27) capitalized on a three-run first inning to take the season series over the Pioneers (29-22) at QU Softball Field.
The Scoring…
Bottom of the 1st inning… The Bobcats loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single to start the inning against Colleen Walsh. A RBI hit by pitch by Keilani Finley and RBI walk by Brighid Douglas brought the score to 2-0. After a SHU pitching change, Miranda Magana recorded the RBI fielder's choice for the 3-0 cushion.
Bottom of the 3rd inning… Emily Czaja recorded the two-out RBI single for the final run of the game.
The Numbers…
- The Pioneers were held to two hits for the third time in the last four games. Fallon Bevino and Katelyn Christian contributed the lone SHU hits.
- Shyanne Fennell and Kristen McCann each pitched three innings in relief. Fennell allowed one run on two hits while striking out two and McCann registered five strikeouts to move her season total to 170.
Up Next…
The Pioneers conclude the 2018 regular season with a doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, May 6 in a make-up date after the April 7 meeting was postponed. Game one is slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
