Orosco Named Google Cloud Academic All-District

Sacred Heart University junior Emily Orosco (Camarillo, Calif.) was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® I Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, on Thursday. The honor came hours prior to the pitchers 6.2 innings of work in leading the Pioneers to an opening game victory at the Northeast Conference Tournament.
Orosco added the academic honor to a resume that grew on Wednesday as well, when she was named the NEC Co-Pitcher of the Year, Most Improved Player and All-NEC First Team. She improved to 14-4 on the year with her win on Thursday and boasts a 1.23 ERA. Orosco fanned eight batters Thursday afternoon, bringing her season total to 205, good for 10.1 per 7 innings pitched. She entered the tournament ranked 10th in the nation in that category.
An alumnus of Aldolfo Camarillo High School, Orosco majors in Biology at SHU, and boasts a 3.98 GPA through five semesters. She has been named to the NEC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll twice and will earn her third honor later this month.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
SHU defeated second-seeded Central Connecticut State 7-2 Thursday in Loretto, Pa. The Pioneers improved to 31-23, extending their Division I record for wins in a single-season. SHU takes on top-seed and host Saint Francis U at 10:00 am Friday.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed here for baseball and softball, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
