
Nelis Named NEC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University women's volleyball redshirt-junior Liisel Nelis was named the Molten/NEC Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
Nelis is the first Pioneer to earn a weekly honor this season. She recorded 47 kills and averaged 3.62 kills and 2.67 kills per set in a 3-0 week for SHU at the Battle of Connecticut Tournament. Since the start of the season, Nelis has averaged the most kills per set (3.55) in the NEC.
In a 3-1 win over Fairfield, Nelis totaled a match high 14 kills while adding 13 digs and a service ace. She followed with a season-high of 19 kills, 18 digs and four service aces to carry the Pioneers to a five set win against Hartford. In the last match of the weekend, she posted 14 kills in a four set triumph over Quinnipiac. Nelis finished with the most kills in each of her three matches and was named to the Battle of Connecticut All-Tournament Team.
Sacred Heart currently holds a 4-1 record and has won three-consecutive matches. The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, September 7, when they take on Seton Hall in the Thunderdome Classic in Santa Barbara, California.
