SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball defeated NEC-foe Bryant on the road in straight sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) Saturday evening. With the win, SHU improves to 8-10 on the season and 4-2 in NEC-play, while Bryant. falls to 10-13 on the season and 5-2 in the NEC.

Liisel Nelis led SHU with nine kills and added eight digs, while Sarah Ciszek added 28 assists and nine digs in the win. The Pioneers return to action Friday, Oct. 18, when SHU travels to take on NEC-foe Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m.

• The run was capped by a Liisel Nelis kill to force a Bryant timeout

• Out of the timeout, Bryant cut the SHU lead to 21-20 to force a SHU timeout

• The Pioneers responded by taking the next four points to secure the set win                                       

SET 2 - SHU 25, Bryant 17

• Bryant jumped out to a 6-2 lead before SHU trimmed the deficit to 14-13 to force a Bulldogs timeout

• Out of the timeout, SHU went on a 4-0 run to take a 17-14 lead to force another Bulldogs timeout

• Out of the timeout, the Pioneers closed the set with an 8-3 run to secure the set 

SET 3 - SHU 25, Bryant 22

• The two sides traded points to a 14-14 tie

• The two sides continued to trade points to an 18-18 tie

• SHU took a 20-18 lead after Julia Murawinski scored a kill and a Bryant attack error

• After Bryant tied the set at 20-20, the Pioneers went back on top, 22-20

• Leading 23-22, Makayla Dole and Liisel Nelis scored back-to-back kills to take the set and match
