Sarah Ciszek was nearly perfect in the 3-0 week for Sacred Heart University volleyball and the Northeast Conference recognized that by naming her Player of the Week. The honor is the second of the 2019 campaign for the sophomore as the Pioneers swept Merrimack, St. Francis Brooklyn and LIU to improve to 13-10 overall and 8-2 in league play.
Ciszek recorded double-doubles in the wins over St. Francis and LIU, going for 33 assists and 12 digs versus the Terriers and 27 assists and 11 digs versus the Sharks. That brings her season total to 13 double-doubles, including three matches in which she recorded a triple-double.
The hitting numbers for the week that Ciszek put up could be even more impressive, as she recorded 18 kills in the three wins, against only one error. She finished the week hitting .586, that included seven kills on only nine attempts in the win over LIU.
Ciszek has played in 23 matches this season, with 90 sets to her credit. She had handed out 862 assists, tops in the NEC and is averaging, 9.49 per set. Her 159 kills are third most on the roster, and her .342 hitting percentage is tops on the roster. Ciszek has 250 digs, four shy of her total from last season, and ranks second on the team in that category as well.
The Pioneers are currently in third place in the NEC, behind Robert Morris and Bryant. SHU travels to Western Pennsylvania this weekend to take on St. Francis University on Friday and the league-leading Colonials on Saturday.
