Softball Falls to Western Carolina 3-1

CULLOWHEE, N.C.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team fell to Western Carolina this afternoon by a final score of 3-1. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 4-6 on the season while the Catamounts improve to 7-6 on the season. The Pioneers will return to action on Friday, Mar. 8 when the Pioneers stay in North Carolina to compete in the UNCG Invitational as SHU faces off first against Saint Peter's. First-pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
The scoring
- Bottom of the 1st inning- After a double and a an error following would put the Catamounts ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
- Bottom of the 3rd inning- The Catamounts would score the second run of the game off a sacrifice fly to put Western Carolina ahead 2-0.
- Top of the 6th inning- A solo homer by junior Katelyn Christian would score the Pioneers lone run of the game to make the score 2-1 heading into the bottom of the inning.
- Bottom of the 6th inning- A runner reached off a throwing error would set up a sacrifice fly to score in the third run of the game for Western Carolina to give them the 3-1 victory.
The numbers
- Western Carolina would outhit the Pioneers eight to six in the game.
- Sophomore Caroline Kruger led the team in hits with two in the game.
- Katelyn Christian would cash in her first homerun of the season to score the lone run for the Pioneers.
- Kristen McCann would tally the loss for the Pioneers as she went five and two-thirds innings giving up three runs on eight hits.
