STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Facing stiff competition in the form of a top-notch Wagner side, the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team say their 2019 season come to an end with a 18-5 loss to the Seahawks from Hameline Field on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers finish 2-14 (1-6 NEC) on the season while Wagner (13-3, 6-1 NEC) advances to the NEC Tournament as the second seed.

Despite the loss, freshman Lydia Werlau scored one goal to give her 38 goals and a SHU rookie record 45 points on the season. Werlau came into today tied with Christina Macchia's 44-point season in 2001 for the highest single-season rookie point total in program history.

Today's result signals the end of the careers of SHU's five-member senior class – Hanna Wise, Carrie Speicher, Blair Yesko, Anna Finn and Olivia Mittleman – who all played in their final collegiate game on Sunday.

First Half (12-3 WAG)

• Wagner jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Pioneers found the back of the net for the first time
• Wise broke the SHU scoreless streak with her first of two goals on the day, with this one coming off a feed from Sydney Ericson
• The Seahawks tacked on five unanswered goals, taking an 11-1 lead, before the Pioneers responded with consecutive tallies
• Cassie Cesario broke up the 5-0 Wagner run with her 23^rd goal of the season while Kerri Metzler faked out her defender with a nice spin move to net her third goal of the season and make it 11-3 Seahawks
• Kelsey Savje scored with 54 seconds left in the half to make it 12-3 Wagner at the half

Second Half (18-5 WAG)

• Facing a nine-goal deficit, SHU saw Wagner increase their advantage to 15-3 nearly midway through the second half
• Back-to-back SHU goals from Werlau and Wise stymied the Wagner run before three straight Seahawks goals over the final 7:41 gave Wagner the 18-5 victory

• Making her third start of the season and of her career, Amy Cadle made seven saves in the cage for SHU in her 47:30 minutes of action
• Wise led the SHU offense with two goals in her final collegiate game
• Wise finishes the season with 31 goals and 32 points, giving her 69 goals and 73 points across her four-year career
• Werlau completes a freshman campaign to remember as she racked up SHU rookie records with 45 points and 38 goals to go along with seven assists
• The 38-goal total is the most for any Pioneer in a single-season since Shelby Vaccaro netted 42 back in 2014
