Women's Ice Hockey Drops Second Game 9-1 at Quinnipiac

Box Score

HAMDEN, Conn. — Looking for a comeback in its two-day series at Quinnipiac, the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team couldn't overcome a tough third period in its 9-1 loss on Monday.

SHU starts the season 0-2-0, while the Bobcats improved to 2-0-0.

The Pioneers only trailed 3-0 after two periods. Unfortunately, the Bobcats scored three times in the first nine minutes of the third period to take a 6-0 lead.

SHU got on the board when first-year Paige McNeil slammed the puck home for her first career goal, with assists from sophomores Cassandra Nevers and Alexa Ocel. Nevers picked up a point for the second game in a row.

Quinnipiac outshot the Pioneers, 117-12, and 61-9 for shots on goal. SHU goalie, Frankie Sanchez, stopped 52 shots.

SHU's next game will be in January when the NEWHA starts a condensed conference schedule.
