GAME NOTES
Coming off its first win of the season, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team is back in action Monday and Tuesday when it travels to Wagner College for a two-game series. The Pioneers topped LIU, 87-72, following a 75-55 loss in game one.
Overall making the trip to Staten Island hasn't been favorable for the Pioneers, but their last trip was a good one. Sacred Heart beat Wagner, 81-74, in last year's lone meeting. Tyler Thomas and Alex Watson are the only two players on this year's team who played in that game. Thomas had 13 points off the bench. SHU had good success on the road in the NEC last year with a 6-3 mark.
OPENING TIP:
- Sophomore Tyler Thomas had the best game of his career against the Sharks with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
- The Pioneers were 32 points better (87 vs. 55) in their second game against LIU than the NEC opener.
- Sacred Heart has won the last two games against Wagner, snapping a streak of five-straight losses.
- The Seahawks lead the all-time series, 25-16, with a 14-7 advantage at home.
- Under head coach Anthony Latina, the Pioneers are 4-9 against Wagner and have only won once at WC.
- Sacred Heart has the youngest program in the country with eight first-year players.
