
Tingley Breaks School Record While Swimming and Diving Sits in Fifth After Day Two At NEC Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team concluded the second day of competition at the Northeast Conference Championships this afternoon. SHU currently sits in fifth with 128 points. The Pioneers hit day three in the pool with prelims beginning at 10am and finals at 6pm.
Bryant remains in first place after day two with 290 points followed by Central Connecticut with 218 and Wagner with 205. Saint Francis U sits in fourth with 166 then SHU in fifth with 128 with LIU right behind in sixth with 126. St. Francis (N.Y.), sits in seventh with 122 points while Merrimack and Mount Saint Mary's round out the team scores as Merrimack has 58 and Mount has 51 points respectively.
EVENING SESSION (Finals Results)
200 IM
- Nicole Tingley took fifth place in the finals event touching the wall with a time of 2:08.09.
- First-year Casey Barrett placed ninth with a time of 2:08.93 which was a season best.
- Fiona Maxwell placed 12th with a time of 2:11.63 which marked a season best for the junior.
50 Freestyle
- In the finals event, senior Lauren Somers finished with a sixth-place finish as she touched the wall with a time of 23.71.
- First-year Kelly Bartnett placed first in her heat with a time of 23.73 while she finished 17th overall.
1-Meter Diving
- Sophomore Molly Martin took fifth with a final score of 165.55
- Meghan McLaughlin tallied a score of 159.75 to take seventh.
200 Freestyle Relay
- The group of Emily Peter, Kelly Bartnett, Nicole Tingley and Lauren Somers took fifth with a combined time of 1:35.94. Peter led off with a time of 24.69 followed by Bartnett with a time of 23.70, then Tingley with a touch time of 23.95 and Somers rounding out the finals with a time of 23.60.
MORNING SESSION (Prelim Results)
SHU tallied 11 season-best efforts during the morning session which included one school record breaking swim by Nicole Tingley in the 200 IM.
500 Freestyle
- Grace Bergstrom placed 32nd with a season best time of 5:21.45
- Senior Shanna Haddow followed with a 36th place finished with a season best time of 5:24.94.
- Fellow senior Sarah Hensal took 37th with a season best of 5:26.13.
200 IM
- Nicole Tingley led the way in the 200 IM prelims with a school record breaking time of 2:07.51 to place 11th overall.
- Casey Barrett followed suit with a 17th place finish with a season best time of 2:09.57.
- Fiona Maxwell placed 25th with her season best time of 2:11.96.
- First-year Ashley Ayala took 28th place a time of 2:13.29 which was also a season best.
- First-year Hyzell Lim concluded the 200 IM contestants with a 35th place finish with a season best time of 2:19.97.
50 Freestyle
- Senior Lauren Somers will swim in the A Final after touching at 23.65 for fourth place which is a season best.
- First-year Kelly Bartnett placed 23rd with a season best time of 24.65.
- Emily Peter followed with a 25th place finish and also a season best time of 24.71.
- Senior Julia Pusateri rounded out the 50 free event members with a season best time of 25.78 for a 40th place finish.
200 Freestyle Relay
- The relay of Grace Bergstrom, Jillian Pusateri, Nikole Rudis and Taylor Eck placed third in the prelims with a combined time of 1:42.66.
1-Meter Diving
- Sophomore Molly Martin accumulated 165.55 points to take fifth place during the opening diving event Thursday morning.
- Meghan McLaughlin placed eighth with 159.75 points.
- Alexandra Bonanno placed 13th with a score of 135.15 points.
- Jessica Pianese took 16th place with a dive of 128.30 points.
