Gonzalez Named NEC Player of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J.- Sacred Heart University softball catcher Alyssa Gonzalez was named Northeast Player of the Week for her play over the past week down in Florida. This is the second weekly award the sophomore has received this year. The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Mar. 13 when SHU heads to North Carolina to compete in the East Carolina University Tournament.

Gonzalez tallied a batting average of .381 with five runs scored and nine RBIs over seven games last week. She went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a homer and five RBIs in a sweep of Bethune-Cookman. She currently leads the team in hits with 16, RBIs with 18 and homeruns with eight. She also leads the team in batting average for the year as she is batting .333 at the plate.
