Women's Lacrosse Earns Win Over Delaware State

The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team defeated visiting non-conference foe, Delaware State University, 21-2 on Campus Field, Friday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 1-4 on the year, while the Hornets fall to 1-4.

Bella Beaton earned her first collegiate win in net, and Cassie Cesario and Lydia Werlau tallied five points in the win.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday when they host Manhattan at 3:00 pm

  • Werlau scored four times for the Pioneers, while Cesario handed out three assists
  • Kerri Metzler also notched a hat trick, and added an assist

How it Happened

  • Cassie Cesario won the opening draw, fed Grace Reinold for a tally, nine seconds into the game
  • The Pioneers scored the first eight goals, in the first 9:15 of the game
  • After a Delaware State goal at 20:26, a free position goal, SHU finished the half, with six straight, to take a 14-1 lead into the break
  • SHU scored five times in the first 15:34 of the second-half to build a 17-1 advantage, before a man-up goal from the Hornets with 9:26 remaining
  • The Pioneers netted the final three goals of the game for the final margin
