
Chestnut Named to 2020 Hero Sports FCS Preseason All-American Third-Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- Sacred Heart University Football rising junior running-back Julius Chestnut was named to the 2020 FCS Hero Sports Preseason All-American Third-Team yesterday afternoon. The selection was chosen by senior Hero Sports writers and selections were based on top returners and incomers for the 2020 season.
Chestnut is coming off a strong sophomore year being named to the All-NEC First-Team along with First-Team All-ECAC and All-New England honors as well. After being named the 2018 NEC Rookie of the Year, he followed with a breakout 2019 campaign which stands as one of the top individual seasons in program history.
Chestnut accumulated 1,495 rushing yards which ranks second in all of FCS and the second-highest single-season total in school history. A true workhorse, Chestnut carried an FCS-high 293 times which sets a SHU single-season record while he tallied nine 100+ yard games in 12 appearances in 2019.
He compiled nine games with 100+ yards on the ground including four straight to end the 2019 season. He added 179 receiving yards on 14 catches to give him 1,674 total yards from scrimmage in 12 games which also ranks second-most in school history. His top individual performance in 2019 came on the road at Bryant as he carried a SHU Division I record (since 1999) 43 times for a career-high 203 yards, becoming the ninth Pioneer in school history to gain 200+ yards on the ground.
The Pioneers kick off the 2020 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 when SHU hosts Lafayette.
