The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team welcomes Binghamton to the William H. Pitt Center for its home opener. Game time is set for 1 p.m. as the Pioneers look to improve to 2-1 in the non-conference slate.

OPENING TIP

  • Head Coach Anthony Latina secured his 100th career win at La Salle.
  • SHU has dropped the last three meetings against the Bearcats. The last time the two teams met was in 2019 and the Pioneers fell, 76-72, in New York.
  • The last win against the Bearcats dates back to 1999, 86-58.
  • In the last meeting, then sophomore Aaron Clarke posted double-figure scoring with 10 points off four-of-ten shooting from the field.
  • The Pioneers finished third in the NEC last season and was predicted sixth this season despite returning 98% of its scoring.
  • The last home-opening win was an 84-63 victory over Brown in 2019.
  • The starters were responsible for the bulk of points in the opening road series. 78% of scoring came from starters at La Salle and 84% at Providence.

TYLER T, MVP?
Tyler Thomas was the second highest scorer in the league during opening night. After leading SHU with a 24-point performance, Thomas sat behind Bryant's Charles Pride who netted 25 against Division III Fisher College. Its no surprise that Thomas is SHU's go-to as he ranks second in the country with 41 field goal attempts across two games. Thomas is sixth nationally in three-point attempts (21).

RUN IT BACK
The Pioneers return 98.3% of its scoring and 96.1% of their minutes from a year ago. The mark ranks Sacred Heart among the top 10 nationally for most scoring returning at number seven. Saint Francis and Merrimack are the only other team in the NEC to crack the top 20. SFU returns 100% and ties for first while the Warriors rank fifth.

BROOOOO
Junior Tyler Thomas and first-year Tanner Thomas go further back than most. Despite listing separate hometowns on their player bios, the two are brothers and are among 15 other brother-brother pairs in the country competing on the same team. The duo both finished their high school careers at Williston Northampton in Massachusetts. At La Salle, Tyler assisted Tanner's first and only collegiate bucket.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
Junior transfer Joey Reilly has made an immediate impact for the Pioneers. The Holy Cross transfer posted back-to-back double-digit scoring performances to kick start his career with the Red & White. Reilly is the third leading scorer on the team and averages 12.0 ppg. The local product from Cromwell, Conn. leads the NEC, along with Alex Watson, in three-point percentage (54.5%).
