Senior leads NEC, 16th in the FCS for sacks.
SOMERSET, NJ – During its five-game winning streak, the defense for the Sacred Heart University football team has been outstanding. Right in the middle of that disruption has been defensive end Kevin Peprah and he was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
It's the second time this season the Woodbridge, Va. native has picked up the award. Zevi Eckhaus from Bryant was named Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week. Saint Francis' Alex Schmoke picked up Special Teams Player of the Week.
In the win over Wagner, Peprah recorded a career-high nine tackles, including six solo stops. He had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss. The NEC Defensive Player of the Year candidate has at least 1.5 sacks in four of his last five games. Peprah is 16th in the FCS, and leads the NEC, at 0.90 sacks per game and his 1.2 TFL is 32nd.
As it's done the last five games, the Pioneers' defense was nearly flawless as they posted their second shutout of the season. Wagner was limited to just 119 yards of total offense and didn't get past the SHU 39-yard line all game.
Sacred Heart wraps up the regular season Saturday at LIU in a 12 p.m. contest.
