The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team kicks off the 2021-22 season on November 9 at La Salle at 8 p.m. The season-opener marks the second all-time meeting between the two teams and the Explorers hold the series record after a 100-71 decision in 2012. 
 
OPENING TIP

• The Pioneers have yet to open their season with a win since 2015 when they downed Division II Bridgeport, 101-94. 
• The Pioneers finished third in the NEC last season and was predicted sixth this season despite returning 98% of its scoring.
• Head coach Anthony Latina sits just one win away from 100 career wins at the helm. 
• Junior guard Tyler Thomas was named to the Preseason All-NEC team after earning NEC Most Improved Player and Second-Team All-NEC in 2020-21. 
• Thomas led the NEC and was 43rd in the country at 19.1 ppg.
• Mike Sixsmith - the most accurate three-point shooter in the conference - was voted on the NEC All-Rookie Team in 2020-21.
• Sacred Heart had the youngest program in the NEC and was 301 out 329 nationally with eight first-year players during the 2020-21 season.
