Pioneers Sit Fifth After Day One at Blue Devil Invite

Three Pioneers set season bests

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.- Season bests were made for the Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team after day one of the Blue Devil Invite on Friday. The Pioneers currently sit in fifth place with 74 points.

Prelims:

In the 50 yard backstroke, senior Taylor Eck led the Pioneers as she placed 12^th with a time of 29.76.
First-year Caroline Duhamel placed 17^th in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.45.
Senior Nicole Tingley led the Pioneers in the 200 yard IM touching the wall in seventh place with a time of 2:13.01.
Junior Kelly Bartnett placed 17^th in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.69.
All the Pioneers that competed in the prelims automatically advanced to the finals.

Finals:

The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Nicole Tingley, Christina Caminiti, Kelly Bartnett and Alivia Gibson placed fourth overall with a time of 1:38.69. The time was three seconds off the program record set back in 2017 by Caleigh Dion, Olivia Decas, Jillian Crosby and Lauren Somers with a time of 1:35.60.
Taylor Eck placed seventh with a time of 27.95 dropping 1.81 seconds from her prelim time.
Caroline Duhamel dropped 10 seconds off her prelim time in the 500 yard freestyle placing 13^th with a season best time of 5:13.47.
Nicole Tingley also recorded a season best time in the 200 IM placing seventh with a time of 2:08.50.
Kelly Bartnett tallied a season best time in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.84 to place 13^th overall and first in the C final.
The 400 yard medley relay concluded the opening day of the Blue Devil Invite as the Pioneers A relay placed fourth with a time of 4:00.21 featuring Casey Barrett, Rosemery Nieto, Nicole Tingley and Grace Bergstrom.
