#11 SHU Wins First Dual Meet in Program History

Reed’s pin in final bout secures victory over NJCU.
LOCK HAVEN, Pa . – Fresh off its first national ranking, the Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team recorded its first dual meet victory in program history. The #11 Pioneers defeated New Jersey City University, 18-16, but lost 33-11 to #15 Lock Haven.
Sacred Heart starts the dual meet part of the year at 1-1.
Against the Gothic Knights, Sacred Heart was down 10-0 after a pair of forfeits. SHU got on the board when Savannah Vanase won 10-4 at 136 pounds. Tays Pascual came through and pinned Lockslea Mayers in 1:13 at 143 pounds.
SHU received a forfeit at 155 pounds, but had to forfeit at 170 to give NJCU a 16-13 lead going into the final contest. Sixth-ranked Ashley Reed secured the victory by pinning #7 Sandy Guerrero at the 2:23 mark of their 191-pound contest.
Versus Lock Haven, the Pioneers had to forfeit the five matches as they were down 25-0 before the first Pioneer took the mat. Reed picked up her second victory of the day when she pinned Lacey Hums in just 1:48.
Sacred Heart returns to the mat December 13 when it hosts its first home meets against Elmira at 4 p.m. followed by NJCU at 6 p.m.
