
Softball Ready to Kick-Off 2021 Season Versus Rhode Island

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University softball team is set to kick-off the 2021 season at home against Rhode Island Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Both games will be available on NEC Front Row.
The Pioneers had their 2020 season cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak nationwide. SHU was able to play in 16 games as they tallied an 8-8 overall record. SHU returns 15 players from last season which features junior catcher Alyssa Gonzalez who led the Pioneers last season in homers with five while tallying 18 RBIs. Junior Amy Petrovich the former NEC All-Rookie Team, All-Tournament Team, and All-NEC Second Team member also returns for the Pioneers. Last season, she appeared in all 16 games, recorded 14 hits in 51 at-bats with 13 RBIs and three homers.
On the mound carrying the Pioneers will be senior Colleen Walsh who appeared in seven games for SHU including six starts and tallied 20 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.93 and an overall record of 3-2.
After the Rhode Island doubleheader Saturday, SHU gets right back on the field the day after to host Lehigh for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
