Softball Splits With Maine Taking Game Two 10-5

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University softball team returned to Pioneer Park on Sunday afternoon splitting a two-game series with Maine falling in the first 8-2 and winning in game two 10-5.

Game 1

Score: Maine 8, SHU 2

Of Note

After two innings, the Pioneers were able to take a 2-1 lead courtesy of an RBI single by junior Alyssa Gonzalez in the first inning and a sac fly by Marie Funes in the second.
The rest of the scoring would come from Maine as they tallied three homers in two innings including two in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
An RBI triple and double would lead to the 8-2 victory for Maine.
The Pioneers were held to just one hit in the game while Maine tallied 15.

Of Note

The second game would be a complete 180 from game one as the Pioneers fired 13 hits in the game while holding Maine to just seven.
Starting pitcher Olivia Vadas had an impressive outing going 5.2 innings with allowing four hits and struck out four.
The Pioneers jumped out early with a homer to center field by Caroline Kruger for her first of the season to put SHU ahead 1-0.
The scoring kept coming as in the fourth inning, the Pioneers went back-to-back with home-runs by Maighread Scafariello and Kira Ferraiolo to put SHU ahead 4-0.
The big scoring came off the bat of Alyssa Gonzalez as she launched a deep home-run to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning for her fourth of the season to take a 10-5 lead.
Caroline Kruger put in an impressive game two going 3-4 at the plate with two RBI's.
