Box Score STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — In a close loss, the Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell 2-1 to Northeast Conference rival Wagner on Monday. The Pioneers dropped to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the NEC, while the Seahawks improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Wagner outshot the SHU 14-9 and goalkeeper Hailey Power made three saves between the poles.
The Seahawks scored first with five minutes left in the first quarter, with Julia Chang responding two minutes later with her first goal of the season to knot the game 1-1.
Wagner's Julia Cruces Pastorino tallied the winning goal with eight minutes left in the third. Sacred Heart couldn't muster up an equalizing score, with the Seahawks' goalie Erin Franklin stifling the team's three shots on goal in the final 23 minutes.
The Red and White continue with a conference contest at Merrimack on April 1 at 1 p.m.
