SOMERSET, N.J.- Sacred Heart University softball freshman Emily Carroll was named Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week for her play over the past weekend against Stony Brook. This is the first time the freshman has been named Player and Rookie of the Week in her career. Last week she was named a Prime Performer in the NEC's Weekly Awards.
Carroll went 3-5 at the plate in game two of the doubleheader against Stony Brook with one double and most importantly the game-winning walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Pioneers the 5-4 victory over Stony Brook to split the series.
The freshman currently leads the Pioneers in batting average with a .455 average in the box while also leading in slugging percentage (1.091). She also leads the team in home runs with two on the year.
Junior Alyssa Gonzalez was named a prime performer as well for her play against the Seawolves on Sunday. She tallied four hits, and three RBI's in the Pioneers split with Stony Brook.
SHU returns to action on Saturday, March 13 when the team travels to face Fordham. First-pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
