Box Score TRUMBULL, Conn. — After a two-week hiatus, the Sacred Heart University men's tennis team defeated Saint Francis 5-2 in their first win of the season Saturday.
SHu improved to 1-6 overall, 1-3 in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash fell to 3-13, 1-3 in the league.
Saint Francis took the doubles point with victories in the first two matches at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
William Wibmer dominated both his matchups in singles and doubles. Wibmer and partner Cameron Goldstein defeated the Red Flash duo in a tiebreaking 7-3 victory. Wibmer won the first set in solo play with a 7-3 tiebreaking decision and 6-0 in the second set at number two.
Lefteri Apostolou got SHU on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number four singles. Ayman Khan followed at number six, 6-4, 6-3.
After Wibmer's victory, St. Francis won at number one to pull within 3-2. Wrapping up the team victory was Kevin Chao with his 6-3, 6-4 triumph at number three.
