Gonzalez Player of the Year Highlights NEC Softball Postseason Awards

SOMERSET, N.J.- Three Sacred Heart University softball players clinched Northeast Conference postseason honors with junior catcher Alyssa Gonzalez highlighting the awards earning her first career Player of the Year honors and her first All-NEC First Team selection.
Gonzalez had a career-breaking junior regular season racking up career highs in home runs (16), RBI (41), doubles (6), hits (37), and runs scored (20). She led the Pioneers in home runs, RBI, and batting average this season. She ranks first in the NEC in home runs, slugging percentage, and RBI.
Junior Amy Petrovich clinched her second career All-NEC honors as she was named to the All-NEC Second Team for the second time in her career. In the regular season, she tallied a career-high six home runs with 10 doubles, 28 hits to account for 26 RBI. She also tallied four multi-hit games in her junior year.
First-year Emily Carroll concludes this year's All-NEC post-season honors as she was named to the All-NEC Rookie Team for her impressive first year as a Pioneer. She tallied 33 hits which was third on team with one triple, six home runs which is tied for second on team with 14 RBI and a .300 batting average. So far this season, she has had seven multi-hit games which is one short of leader Alyssa Gonzalez with eight.
SHU looks to ride these honors into the NEC Tournament tomorrow when they kick-off play against #1 seed Saint Francis U at 12:00 p.m. The game can be viewed on NEC Front Row.
