SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference weekly awards keep coming in for the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball program. On Tuesday, senior setter Sarah Ciszek was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior middle blocker Reghan Palanchi grabbed Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
For Ciszek it's the 10th NEC weekly honor of her career. Palanchi collects her second award after being named Defensive Player of the Month during the spring. Sharing the offensive award with Ciszek was LIU's Jovana Stekovic, while Alasha Colon from St. Francis Brooklyn was named Rookie of the Week.
A native of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Ciszek averaged 7.4 assists, 2.3 kills and 1.6 digs during a 2-1 weekend. She recorded a 24-assist, 11-kill double-double as the Pioneers swept Fairfield. Ciszek posted 40 assists in the five-set victory over Lafayette.
Palanchi was a force at the net during the SHU Invitational, averaging 1.2 blocks per set. The Succasunna, N.J. product tied a season-high with six blocks in the come-from-behind five-set victory over Lafayette. She also had season-highs of 10 kills and five digs versus the Leopards. Plananchi produced four rejections in the win over Fairfield.
Sacred Heart wraps up the preseason next weekend at the Hartford Invitational where they will face Dartmouth (Friday) and Brown (Saturday).
