Pioneers come up a point short against the Rams.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A lack of depth was the undoing of the Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team on Saturday. The Pioneers narrowly lost to Delaware Valley University, 20-19, before dropping a 40-5 decision to Lock Haven.

Sacred Heart spotted Delaware Valley a 15-point lead thanks to a trio of forfeits. SHU got its own forfeit for Savannah Vanse at 136 pounds. Seventh-ranked Madison Sandquist recorded a pin at 143 pounds in under a minute.

At 155 pounds, Temi Sanusi recorded a 10-0 tech fall against Gigi Lee to make it 20-14. Jacklyn Smith capped the match with a pin in 2:25 over Caira Jaynes, but it was not enough to pull even with the Rams.

Four forfeits put Sacred Heart in a 30-0 hole against Lock Haven to start the match. Sacred Heart's lone points came from Sansusi thanks to a forfeit.

The Pioneers get back on the mat January 29 at the Dragon Duals, hosted by Tiffin University.
