Pioneers Pick up Two Wins at D-1 Showcase

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Coming into Saturday's action, the Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team and Limestone University were tied at No. 14 in the national poll. The Pioneers broke that tie as they defeated the Saints, 12-6, then beat Bridge the Gap, 20-0.
Limestone got the first victory at 136 pounds, but it was all SHU after that. Eighth-ranked Madison Sandquist recorded an 11-0 tech fall over Mika Walters at 143 pounds.
SHU got the lead thanks to Temi Sanusi's 8-5 win at 155 pounds versus Shelsy Renous. Securing the victory was sixth-ranked Ashley Reed as she pinned Journey Land at 191 pounds.
Sacred Heart won all four of its matches against Bridge the Gap, a team of athletes from various schools throughout the country. Sandquist, Sanusi and Vanase all recorded pins.
SHU stays in South Carolina for the Lady Saints Open on Sunday.
