Grad student also ties league mark with seventh honor this season
SOMERSET, N.J. – If there's been one constant in the Northeast Conference women's volleyball world it's been Sacred Heart University's Sarah Ciszek collecting Player of the Week. That was the case on Tuesday as she won her seventh award of the season.
It's the 21st award for the San Juan Capistrano, Calif. native, surpassing LIU's Anna Foit (2011-14) for the most in conference history. The seven honors this season ties Emma Granger from Robert Morris who was named Player of the Week seven times during the 2019 season.
Ciszek led Sacred Heart to a pair of straight-set victories in conference play by averaging 9.83 assists, 2.83 kills and 1.17 digs per set. After handing out 30 dimes against Merrimack on Friday, she was virtually unstoppable in Saturday's win over Stonehill, assembling a 12-kill and 29-assist double-double. Most impressively, she compiled a career-high .857 hitting percentage in the latter victory. Ciszek leads the circuit in assists per set (9.11), assists (729) and total kills (170) as well as first in hitting percentage (.379).
Isabelle Roufs from CCSU and LIU's Anastasia Scott shared Defensive Player of the Week. Rookie of the Week went to Saint Francis' Korrin Burns
Sacred Heart (13-8 overall, 6-1 NEC) hosts Central Connecticut State on Friday at 5 p.m.
