Graduate setter picks up 23rd honor of her career.
SOMERSET, N.J. – A year ago, Sacred Heart University setter Sarah Ciszek earned both the Northeast Conference Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors. She repeated that feat on Tuesday as part of her historic eighth award of the season as announced by the league office.
The eighth POW award breaks the tie with Robert Morris' Emma Granger who got the award seven times during the 2019 season. In addition, it's the San Juan Capistrano, Calif. native's 23rd career honor, which is two clear of LIU's Anna Foit (2011-14) for the most in conference history. Selina Koc from Saint Francis Brooklyn was named Rookie of the Week.
In a 2-0 week, Ciszek averaged 10.00 assists, 2.00 kills, 2.00 digs and 1.25 blocks while hitting .343. She started the week by topping 50 assists for the third time this season with 50 helpers in the 3-2 win at Albany. Ciszek just missed double doubles with nine kills against the Great Danes and nine digs in the sweep of CCSU. She earned the defensive award thanks to her best blocking matchws of the year with a season-high six blocks against UA then four more rejections versus the Blue Devils
Sacred Heart (15-8, 7-1 NEC) is on the road Friday to face LIU at 5 p.m.
