Ciszek nabs sixth award, Jeffrey claims second
SOMERSET, NJ – Nearing the midway point of the 2022 women's volleyball season there has been one constant in the Northeast Conference that Sarah Ciszek will be named Player of the Week. For the sixth time in six weeks, she collected the award while teammate Brooke Jeffrey earned Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The half dozen awards puts Ciszek one behind Emma Granger from Robert Morris who was named Player of the Week seven times during the 2019 season. For her career, Ciszek has 20 NEC weekly accolades, tying her with LIU's Anna Foit who had 20 from 2011-14.
A native of Austin, Texas, Jeffrey won her first award on September 20. She shared Rookie of the Week with LIU's Amaris Smith. Isabelle Roufs from CCSU picked up Defensive Player of the Week.
During a 1-1 week, Ciszek averaged 9.63 assists, 2.25 kills and 2.5 digs with a .405 hitting percentage. The San Juan Capistrano, Calif. native continues to lead the league in hitting percentage (.359), kills (137), assists (591) and assists per set (9.23). Against Central Connecticut State, she registered her fourth double-double – moving her up to second in the NCAA - with 45 assists, 12 kills and 13 digs.
Jeffrey put up 3.50 kills and 1.50 digs to go along with a .407 hitting percentage. She posted 16 kills against the Blue Devils then added a match-high 12 winners versus Hartford for her first matches with back-to-back double-digit kills. Against the Hawks, she added season-highs of seven digs and a .417 hitting percentage.
