Pioneers Finish Fourth at Fairfield Invitational

Chambers notches a pair of top-five finishes.
FAIRFIELD, CONN. – The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team made the short drive across town Saturday to the Fairfield Invitational. The Pioneers finished fourth.
The host Stags won the event with 508 points. SHU tallied 269 points to finish behind Wagner.
Recording a pair of top-five finishes was sophomore Emma Chambers. She took third in the 200 butterfly at 2:28.42 then posted a 1:09.85 to finish fourth in the 100 butterfly. In her collegiate debut, rookie Charlotte Kaduson's 4:37.77 in the 400 free earned her fourth place.
In the 100-yard backstroke, senior Casey Barrett touched the wall in 1:07.33 to place fifth. Classmate Kelly Bartnett finished sixth at 28.23 in the 50 free.
Caroline Duhamel was a seventh-place finisher in 400 freestyle thanks to a time of 4:47.50. Emma Davis turned in a 1:02:31 to take seventh in the 100 free. Also finishing seventh was Meghan Hammarlund with a 2:29.07 in the 200 backstrokes.
SHU concluded the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Kaduson, Barett, Barnett and Davis posted a time of 4:10.67.
Sacred Heart is back in the water next Saturday when it travels to Iona to take on the Gaels and Wagner.
