Ciszek & Smallcomb Nab NEC Weekly Honors

Pioneers in the midst of nine-match winning streak.
SOMERSET, N.J. – For the third time this season, Sarah Ciszek and Emma Smallcomb have earned Northeast Conference awards in the same week. On Tuesday, Ciszek was named Player of the Week and Smallcomb picked up Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
A native of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Ciszek picked up her ninth award of the season and 24th of her career. Smallcomb, from Westborough, Mass., collected the fourth award of her career and third of the season. Selina Koc from St. Francis Brooklyn was named Rookie of the Week.
Ciszek delivered her fifth triple-double on Friday after recording 41 assists, 17 digs and 12 kills in the Pioneers' 3-2 win against LIU. With that performance, she ranks second in the NCAA in that category. Ciszek was just as impressive Saturday, registering 36 assists and 13 digs in a sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn. For the week, she averaged 9.63 assists, 2.13 kills and 3.75 digs per set. Hitting a league-best .373 this season, Ciszek also leads the conference in assists (886) and assists per set (9.23).
In the two wins last week, Smallcomb averaged 6.25 digs and 0.50 service aces with totals of 50 digs, 13 assists and four aces. The libero stuck a season-best 30 digs on Friday to pace the Pios' defense in a five-set win against the Sharks. She added 20 digs in a straight-set sweep of the Terriers and help Sacred Heart maintain its first-place status. Smallcomb is second in the NEC at 4.57 digs per set.
The Pioneers (17-8, 9-1 NEC) are on the road this weekend to take on Merrimack and Stonehill.
