SOMERSET, N.J. – With the Northeast Conference Tournament on the horizon, Sacred Heart University women's volleyball newcomer Brooke Jeffrey is hitting her stride. On Tuesday, she was recognized for two great performances in the final regular season weekend with NEC Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office.
It's the third accolade this season for the Austin, Texas native. Jeffrey shared the honor with LIU's Amaris Smith. Saint Francis got the other two awards as Emma Fenton was named Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week went to Aubrey Deptula.
During a weekend split against Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis, Jeffrey averaged 2.86 kills per set and 1.00 blocks while hitting .386. She had 10 kills in both matches and added five blocks against FDU then five digs versus the Red Flash.
Sacred Heart (20-9, 12-2 NEC) will serve as host of the NEC Tournament and opens against LIU at 6 p.m. on Friday.
