Grad student setter earns second award in three years.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – To cap off her illustrious career, Sacred Heart University's Sarah Ciszek picked up her sport's highest honor. The graduate setter was named Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The San Juan Capistrano, Calif. native is the only player in school history to claim the award and the only two-time recipient from the Northeast Conference. Ciszek was also an honorable mention selection following the 2021 spring season.
"This is a great honor for Sarah and a nice way for her to end her career," SHU head coach Rob Machan said. "She helped set the standard for Sacred Heart volleyball. With her ability to run the offense, attack and play defense I'm not sure there has been a more dynamic player in the NEC."
For the second time in her tenure, Ciszek earned NEC Player of the Year and Setter of the Year. In addition to her two awards, Ciszek also captured the fifth First-Team All-NEC. Ciszek has the distinction that no other student-athlete in the country may ever garner as she is the five-time Setter of the Year and five-time First-Team All-NEC selection.
The most versatile player in the NEC, she led the conference with 1,137 assists, putting her fourth on the SHU single-season charts, and had the top hitting percentage at .353, which is the fifth-best SHU rate. Ciszek earned a record nine NEC Player of the Week awards and finished her career with 24 weekly nods, also a conference record. Ciszek rates fifth in the country with five triple doubles.
She finished her career ranked second in school history with 4,642 assists. Ciszek is tied for the all-time SHU mark with a .344 hitting percentage while rating fifth at 1,348 digs to go along with 937 kills.
