Pioneers Wrap up ECAC Winter Championships

Nieto wins 200 breast consolation final.
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Sunday was another successful day for the Sacred Heart University women's swimming & diving team at ECAC Winter Championships. The Pioneers had seven swimmers in the afternoon session as they concluded the meet.
Sacred Heart amassed 616 points over the three days to finish eighth. Columbia won the competition with 2019 points.
Turning in the best performance of the day was sophomore Rosemery Nieto. She won the consolation final of the 200 breaststroke with a top time of 2:22.68 that is just off her school record and three seconds better than her prelim time.
A pair of sophomores had good races in the 200 butterfly. Emma Chambers had a time of 2:09.28 in the prelims then placed 15th in the finals. Classmate Melanie Sanchez was two seconds better in the afternoon session with a 2:10.94 to take 20th.
Rookie Olivia Ronaghan touched the wall in 18:08.89 to take 15th in the 1,650. Senior Jillian Pusateri followed at 18:35.93 to take 22nd.
Placing 21st with a time of 53.41 in the 100 freestyle was first year Emma Davis. Senior Casey Barrett hit the wall in 2:14.28 to take 24th in the 200 backstrokes.
Sacred Heart got a 13th-place performance from the 400 free relay. The team of Lim Hyzell, Emma McCall, Davis and Grace Bergstrom touched in at 3:36.82.
Up next is the Pace Diving Invitational on December 10 and the full team is in action January 20 at Central Connecticut State.
