Tyler Thomas reaches 1,000 career points; Nico Galette posts career-high 26 points
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite a 26-point second-half effort from Nico Galette, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team didn't have enough to take down third-seeded Long Island on Wednesday night, 82-75.

Alex Watson pulled up at the elbow to tie the game at 24-all before the Sharks embarked on a 9-0 run to pull away. The Pioneers shot just 3-of-12 from deep as Tyler Thomas led with two. Thomas kept SHU afloat in the first half shooting 7-of-13 from the field and netted 17 of the team's 29 points.
Thomas's 19-point performance helped him hurdle the 1,000 point mark which makes him the 46th in school history and 18th in SHU's Division I era. Thomas now has 1,0001 points at the conclusion of the season.
The Pioneers came out of the gates on an 11-4 run to pull within one and then tied the game at the 13:24 mark thanks to a backdoor cut from Mike Sixsmith. Long Island went on a steady climb for the remainder of the half and great to its first double-digit lead of the night with a little over one minute remaining.
Galette held down the offense in Thomas's absence in the final 20 minutes netting a career-high 26 points. The only other time Galette reached 20 points was SHU's last meeting at LIU in February. The sophomore finished 9-of-16 from the field and 4-of-8 from three. He topped off his performance with 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the year.
The two teams shot similarly as SHU shot 40% (28-70) from the field and 32.3% from three (10-31). LIU finished 45.9% (28-61) from the field and 36% (9-25) from three.
