Two Homers Not Enough For SHU in 7-5 Loss at FDU

Trevor Fagan cranked out first home run of the season.

TEANECK, N.J. — Despite leading 5-1 going into the eighth inning, the Sacred Heart University baseball team dropped a 7-5 contest at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.

Of Note:
The Red & White recorded six home runs across the three-game series including a pair for back-to-back runs in the first and fourth innings.

Robert Farruggio smashed a two-run homer out right field to bring George Sutherland home in the first inning.

The Knight shortened the gap with a run in the third before Trevor Fagan cranked out his first bomb of the season in the following frame to bring the lead back to two.

In the top of the fifth, Sutherland hit a bases-clearing double to right center that allowed Justin Jordan and Tim McGuire to score.

The Knights tied the Pioneers with four runs in the bottom of the eighth before a walk-off two-run home run the next inning.

Sutherland landed on base with three hits in four appearances at the dish. The graduate transfer scored a run and brought two Pioneers home.

In his longest stint on the mound this season, Ryan LaMay pitched 7.1 innings with a season-high seven strikeouts.

SHU outhit FDU 6-5 before the eighth where the Knights connected for seven across the final two innings. The visitors left four Pioneers on base, while Fairleigh Dickinson stranded six.
