Anderson was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Zovko was tabbed Rookie

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference (NEC) leading Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team collected two more weekly NEC honors on Tuesday afternoon, with Kate Anderson being named NEC/Molten Defensive Player and Gaby Zovko was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
The Pioneers hit the halfway mark of the league slate a perfect 7-0 after defeating both Saint Francis and Le Moyne last weekend. SHU opened the weekend by earning a thrilling five-set win over SFU on Friday at the Pitt Center before sweeping Le Moyne at home on Saturday.
Anderson led the Pioneers' defense with 1.63 blocks per set to earn the first weekly award of her career. The senior from Weston, Conn., tallied 13 total blocks in the two wins, with three solo and 10 assisted. She added 1.38 kills per set while hitting .304 to her impressive performance. Anderson started her weekend with nine blocks and five kills in a five-setter against SFU. She followed that up with six kills and four blocks in the sweep of Le Moyne.
Zovko led the team with 5.75 assists, was second with 0.63 aces, and third with 1.63 kills and 1.00 blocks per set. Zovko, a seven-time NEC Rookie of the Week, started the weekend with a near triple-double on 26 assists, nine digs and eight kills, to go along with four blocks in SHU's win over Saint Francis. She then tallied 20 assists, five kills, five digs, five aces and four blocks in three sets against the Dolphins.
Sacred Heart will take a break from league play on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for a road 7 p.m. showdown against Bryant in Smithfield, R.I.
