Massachusetts native earns first conference honor

SOMERSET, N.J. — For the first time this season, Sacred Heart University women's cross country runner Angela Kaiser has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Athlete of the Week, as announced Wednesday afternoon.
Kaiser earned the accolade after a career-performance this past weekend, taking first place at the University of Vermont's Fall Foliage Invitational. The graduate student led the Pioneers to a third-place team finish that included four top-20 finishes for the first time this season.
The North Attleboro, Mass., native has been the Pioneers' top finisher in her three races, and has yet to place outside the top-25 overall. Her season-best time of 18:13.3 is a full minute faster than her previous season-best which was set at the NEICAA Cross Country Championships in Boston earlier this month. Kaiser finished 22nd out of 160 harriers as the Pioneers took seventh out of 18 teams.
The Pioneers return to action next weekend for the Northeast Conference (NEC) Cross Country Championships in Brookville, N.Y. on October 28. More information will be available on sacredheartpioneers.com.
